This kit has everything a basic synthesizer should have. We created it so it is playable and it has two voices (or one really complex one – but that’s the fun of a modular system). Let’s just go through all the parts.
The case is a laser cut housing which is – when you follow the instructions accordingly and use the glue and metal bars as indicated – a sturdy, solid house for the modules you will be building. There is a small but powerful power supply (PSU = Power Supply Unit) which runs from an USB adapter. It delivers enough power for these modules or this synth. And in the back of the case there will be a Busboard with 13 connections. One will be used for input, the remaining 12 are for getting power to the modules.
There are two different oscillators. One very high end and actually maybe the most complex module in the case to build. The second sound source is completely the opposite. It is called the Atari Punk Console. We did however change several things and made it our own.
For changing the sound from the oscillators you need a filter and here too we added two different ones with completely different characteristics and possibilities. The most intrusive filter is based on the filter that was found in the old Korg MS20. A complete evil sounding monster. As for the second filter, this one is known as a tilt filter. Remember the high/low dial on an amplifier? That’s it!
For ‘shaping’ sounds you always need certain tools and in this case it is a combination of an amplifier and an envelope generator. A dual VCA and a dual ASR can be found here because: Two voices. And to mix sounds and hear them the system has a mixer and an output module. The output module you can see as a “master volume”. Oh, and don’t forget the additional headphone out in there.
Finally to make things really interesting there are a dual LFO with different times and a pulse as well as triangular output, a Sample and Hold module for (amongst others) a randomized signal with additional white, pink and blue noise outputs and our little most interactive gadget: The CTRL with 2 attenuvertors and a button for generating pulses or gates.
And this completes the TEDDY system!
